4 Ideas for Walking More Steps in a Day

Most of us are cursed with a sedentary job. If you find yourself sitting down all day or standing around with little to no movement, you can begin to be disheartened on your journey to a healthier and active lifestyle. However, even if you’re working 8 to 12 hours shifts at such a job, there is no excuse as to why you can’t be at least a little more active in your life.

And, it has been said time and time again that walking is one of the best activities you can engage in. Walking burns calories, works out some key muscles, and it helps get your blood pumping. It’s also low impact so it’s great for practically everyone–but how do you fit in more steps during your day? Here are some tips.

#1 Walk Every Chance You Get

You might not be able to walk into work, but you can definitely skip the elevator or escalator and take the stairs instead. You can also volunteer yourself to go get the morning coffee from the corner shop or run papers downstairs for a coworker.

#2 Walk In Place

Walking in place is the next best thing to actually walking. If you have your own office, you should have room to stand up and walk in place when you’re taking phone calls or even when you’re on an in-office break. This is a great way to get your blood flowing throughout the day.

#3 Walk After Work

After work, exercise might be the last thing you want to think about, but even a brisk 15-minute walk can do wonders for your mind, body, and soul. Walking before dinner or even after dinner is a great way to squeeze in some more steps. You can also walk in place in front of the television or while in the kitchen where you’d be standing anyway.

#4 Get A Walking Buddy

If you want to be motivated to walk more often, asking a friend to start walking with you a few times a week is a fantastic way to go about it. You can make your walks more interesting by going to a local park or even on a walking trail. You can even bring your friend to walk around downtown or even at the mall. All of it counts as activity!
